Functions

1.   Attestation of Labour Contracts/Agreements for recruitment of Indian workers. Attending to visitors/telephonic enquiries relating to recruitment of Indian workers. Providing a list of approved Recruiting Agents in India to local companies on demand. (http://tempweb60.nic.in/clickme2/important.html External website that opens in a new window)

2.  Attending to complaints received from Indian workers against their employers relating to non-payment of salary/dues/service benefits, harassment at work place, lack of food and accommodation facilities, etc. Advising them about their rights, legal position and guiding them about the course of action to be taken for resolving the issues. Taking up the matter with the local sponsor through the appropriate Government of Bahrain authorities for an amicable settlement.

3.  Attending to complaints of housemaids who approach the Embassy for help and attempting to resolve the issue with the employer. Arranging repatriation of housemaids to India, in cases where she does not want to continue with the local employer.

4.  Processing applications for transportation to India of dead bodies of destitute/stranded/absconded Indian nationals, who die in Bahrain, through Indian Airlines/Air India. Issuing a recommendatory letter to Airlines for free transportation in such cases. Also issuing letter to the concerned Customs Authorities in India seeking help in clearing the personal belongings of the deceased Indian nationals through customs in India.

5.  Correspondence with local authorities for settlement of Death compensation/Insurance money, etc. On receipt of confirmation about availability of money, the legal heirs in India are approached to furnish a Legal Heir Certificate and a Power of Attorney in order to enable the Embassy to collect the amount. On receipt of the above amount, the same is forwarded to the legal heirs.

6.  Attending to enquiries from relatives/Government agencies in India regarding welfare, whereabouts, arrest of Indian nationals as also complaints from relatives in India about non-maintenance of families by the Indian nationals working in Bahrain.

7.  Welfare of NRI's regarding various problems faced by their families in India. Forwarding of such complaints of NRI's to the concerned State authorities for appropriate action. The investigation reports/information received from State authorities are conveyed to the complainant.

8.  Coordination/liaison with local jail/police authorities, labour/ Immigration Department, hospital/sponsors/companies on matters relating to labour and welfare of Indian nationals in an attempt to resolve the issues.

9.  Visit to Bahrain jails for consular access in order to ascertain the welfare of Indian inmates detained there for various crimes and to take up their problems, if any, with the concerned Bahraini authorities

10.  Visit to hospitals to meet patients who are in police custody for various crimes including attempted suicides, etc. and also to enquire about the welfare of patients suffering from infectious diseases like AIDS, etc.

11.  Visiting mortuary in order to identify dead bodies with a view to informing their relatives in India.

12.  Legal assistance may be extended, subject to certain conditions, to Indian women for seeking legal redress  related to marital discord with NRI spouses.

13.  Matters relating to cremations/burials.

14.   Attending to visitors/answering queries over phone about labour and welfare matters.

 

1.  Death Certificate issued by the Directorate of Public Health, Ministry of Health of Bahrain, duly attested by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain.

2.  NOC from Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Bahrain.

3.  Original Passport of the deceased.

4.  Sponsor’s letter regarding settlement of dues (copy of calculation sheet in respect of settlement should be attached) along with a copy of the demand draft made in favour of the next of kin of the deceased.

If the employee is registered as “absconded” from the company, the sponsor should give, in writing, that the employee absconded from his company on…………………(date of absconding) and produce a copy of the complaint lodged with the concerned authorities in this regard.

If the employee died in an accident at work site/road accident, the company/sponsor should give, in writing, that necessary application for claiming GOSI will be submitted shortly and the Embassy will be intimated the position of the claim, at the earliest.

5.  DISPATCH OF BODY TO INDIA :

Consent letter signed by the next of kin of the deceased, duly attested by Village Officer/Tehsildar/Panchayat President, with seal giving the name and designation of the officer who attests the document and office seal. Attestation by Notary Public will be accepted if only the same is attested by the respective Home Department of the State Government.
The consent letter should clearly mention whether there is any dues/claim from the employer or not.  If there is no claim, the same should be mentioned clearly.

If the next of kin is in Bahrain, his/her passport, in original, along with copies of relevant pages, should be submitted to the Embassy, along with his consent, with his/her signature as given in the passport.

6.  CREMATION/BURIAL OF BODY IN BAHRAIN :

Consent letter, IN ORIGINAL, signed by the next of kin of the deceased, duly attested by Village Officer/Tehsildar/Panchayat President, with seal giving the name and designation of the officer attesting and office seal. Attestation by Notary Public will be accepted if only the same is attested by the respective Home Department of the State Government.

The consent letter should clearly mention whether there is any dues/claim from the employer or not.  If there is no claim, the same should be mentioned clearly.

If the next of kin is in Bahrain, his/her passport, in original, along with copies of relevant pages, should be submitted to the Embassy, along with his consent, with his/her signature as given in the passport.
